New tailpiece

Post by pag »

Its my new username...cant get "seyesbass" to work.

I have just recieved my new C64 three screw taipiece from Rosetti UK and installed it on my 20 year old 4001CS.
(Took around three months for it to get here in a bottle by the way!)
The original worked fine but had about a 1.5mm lift and although that didnt bother me for many years it had started to bug me and I wanted to try the three-screw C64 tail to give the bass that 60s vibe.
It might be my imagination but I think it sounds better.
The original bridge just slotted right in and I kept the adjuster screws from 20 year old original also.

Just had say a big thank you to Mr.John Hall for his help in getting this to me.
As I said at the time I was very unsure about tampering with anything on the bass but as the changeover required no alteration to the bass
I thought I would take the plunge.
I will post a pic or two soon as.

On a technical note has anyone done any mods under their tailpiece to make the underside screw attatchment area come into firm contact with the body?
I think theres a couple of mil gap under the tails around the holes beneath the bridge and I wondered if more contact would make for more tonal improvement.

Pete, we use tiny flat washers of varying sizes to fill that gap. Some figure the depth and make a maple insert to fill it. With CNC, I still don't understand why that depth can't be controlled closer .
