Anyone have songs featuring a 620/6?

Post by millifoo »

Longtime reader, first-time poster...

I've been lusting after a Rickenbacker for nearly 15 years, and I'm finally getting close to pulling the trigger. Alas I'm in the middle of nowhere, Missouri, with no Rick dealers nearby, so all my research has been done online - reading and watching and mostly listening to everything I can. I've narrowed things down between a 360/6 and a 620/6. The 360 is of course all over REM songs, so I have a good feel for that. For the 620 I've watched all the youtube videos I could find, but most of them are of someone demoing the guitar alone. Well, at least that's mostly what comes up if you type "Rickenbacker 620" into youtube's search.

Oh - I did spot this one video one in a full band, a neat cover of Hendrix's Manic Depression:

So anyway - back to my main question: does anyone have any recordings of their band or solo recordings (famous or not!) I could take a listen to? Clean and distorted guitar sounds in any genre, I'd be most grateful to hear. That, or pointers to known artists/albums that feature the use of a 620?

Thanks for your time,

-foo

late 80's Azureglo 620/6

clean and simple pop diddy.

I sold that old guitar to get the 370 which I always coveted=mistake, I should have just saved $.

Really Mr Foo, The only answer is to have both. They are different animals to me...and of course there are variations from guitar to guitar, and how they are set up...well and of course an individuals hands and personality all making contribution

This was recorded live using my 620, with vocals added after. Its short but might give you a flavor. The amp is a Hiwatt and was using a Rat distortion:

Or you can check out "Lie" and "Someone To Love" at my band's ReverbNation site, where the rhythm parts were done using the same 620:

Here is a 615. It is the same as the 620 except dot fretboard, no binding, and an Accent VB.

Adam - that's a very convincing late 60s jangly sound you got there - nice!

Chip - I love the light overdriven sound you're getting. Kind of reminds me of the Romantics.

Thank you both!

Thanks. I have been told that on the first Romantics album they used Rics through Hiwatt 1x12 combos that were cranked full blast with pillows over them. :D

Could be a Berserkley band too!
Im sure if you can sample any band from that label, you are sure to find some expertly recorded Ricks!
