Is this a problem?

This is what is under the truss rod cover of my 650S.

The pictures aren't that good. Lighting was a problem and the flash reflected off of the strings. In the top picture, right before the left truss rod, is a "split" in the wood. Is this normal or is it something I should be concerned about?

The only reason I even looked under the cover was because I've been having pretty bad buzz on first through fourth frets of my E and A strings and thought that adding a little relief would help. I changed strings again this morning and if that doesn't help, and this isn't an issue, then I'm out of ideas.

That is a fairly common occurrence. We glue the filler strips in and then machine them, sometimes the machine cuts the end off like that because the wood at the end of the strip is more prone to splintering. This doesn't affect the functioning of the truss rods.
