New to forum old '65 360? in my closet yes/no?

Post by 1oldricky »

Hello,
in getting ready for a yard sale a few weeks ago, way back in one of our closets I found 2 old guitar and cases, that I had picked up around 1990 in Ca when i lived there. 1 was a 12 string epiphone bard, and the other I am pretty sure from the serial number decoder at the Ric website it is a 1965. made in July of that year I will try and post some pics, for folks to give input. I did not pay much for the guitars, i do remember that, and I thought both were just cool and lovely. the old Ric has some wear on the back, looks from the previous owner belt buckle wear, and i see a tiny crack/repair on the pickguard, and the earlier owner changed out the Ric tuners and put on Grovers. other than that, i think the rest is all original, I was going to hand this down to my daughter, but she plays violin. any help/input is appreciated.cant figure out how to put the pic in???

click on "upload attachment"
click on ""choose file" button; a file menu box should appear on your screen. Follow your computer's prompts to upload file. There is a file size limitation, so you might have to "compress" the file with your computer first. This webpage will let you know if the file's too big. Good luck. :)

Welcome, Alana!

I use a freeware program called FastStone Photo Resizer to resize my pictures ... it can be downloaded from CNET (download.com).

in 2005 I do remember a friend of a friend, played it and liked it and said it was a nice guitar, he had no experience with vintage guitars tho, and he took it up to the Guitar Store in town, they offered $2500 at that time to him, and he told them it was not his guitar tos ell, he was just trying to get information on it, as he only had expeience with cheaper, new guitars, not Rickenbackers. It must have got stored away again, back in my closet, and I got disabled in early 2006.with brain stem compression and a lower brain cerebellum herniation, I was never a great player to being with, but I enjoyed rhythmn and I have memory issues and fine motor skill issues, so even playing the few chords I remember is a challenge, and since I am not suppose to lift more than 1 lb, i really cant make use of the lovely Ric, it is so so heavy to me. and the guitar had been f orgotton and back in the closet since then! I cant find the small amp that went with it years ago , but I think it was all fine, i am tryingto post the pics up now, so, pls feel free to check it out. and let me know if it looks ok, with neck, etc. thank you all.

here is the neck- can anyone see if it looks ok? it loos fine to me, straight and no issues, except some wear on the side where the fireglo finish is gone from play wear, i could not load these last 2 pics up in the previous post.and I noticed that the Made in the usa- is sometimes on the bottom? and sometimes on the side? why is this on some RIC guitars? or did they switch it out some year? mine is on the side, running the same direction as the Rickenbacker sign. thank you

Hi Alana,

Most of the 360 looks fine to me; can you post a sharp close up of the back of the neck near the headstock, so we can see what may be a repaired break in the neck? I can't tell whether it is a crack or just the way the grain looks in the shedua strip.

The "Made in USA" is on the "side" running parallel with the Rick logo on your 1965 360, as it should be. It was changed to going across the bottom, parallel to the nut, sometime in 1968 and thereafter for most 360 Rick guitars.

i will try and put up more pics when the kids get home to help angle it. You have lost me at the shadua strip? i see the cream? ivory strip and then the brownish? strip and then the wood body of the guitar. I still cant see a crack, but the kids have better eyes, and i will use my trifocals and the magnify glass again. maybe I am looking in the wrong area? here is a tiny crack in the pickguard I found before with the magnify glass and when i ran my fingers over the pickguard it is hard to see, maybe white glue epoxy? or white out??!! was put on it? here is the pic of the pickguard. see the tiny crack by the screw by the top

Here's the crack Jeff referred to; it's the curved line on the brown center strip in the center of the photo:

I see the small kind of circular oval viaration area in the center dark rosewood? strip area, I thought it was the wood natural grain, would the local guitar place/guy know , if my son ran it over for him to inspect/look at? i cant feel a crack, when i touch that area, would a crack be way inside of the varnish? I know my photos are not the best, I will try to take some better/more detailed/closer ones, are the strings too high off the fretboard and need work? pls see this pic thank to all for your expertise.
