New 360/12 Order
I just spoke to Chris Clayton at Pick of the Ricks, and he gave me an amazing deal on a Fireglo 360/12. He even offered me free shipping!
I already own a 330/12, which I'm very attached to. It seems to me the sound difference between the 330 and the 360 won't be that dramatic. Can I justify owning another Rick? Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks for the encouragement, Scott. Is there a noticeable difference in tone between the 330/12 and the 360/12?

Justification?! What's that?!scotty wrote:Erm course you can are you nuts?Folkie wrote: Can I justify owning another Rick?

Justification is irrelevant; the correct question is, "Do you want a 360/12?"

There's supposed to be a difference in the sound between the two due to the body shape; IIRC, the 330s sound a bit brighter and more resonant, but I could be wrong-it might be the opposite. Additionally, guitars will sound different by era due to shape, internal bracing, wood source/density, drying out of the wood over time, et cetera, IIRC. Personally, I think the more body and neck binding a guitar has, the better it sounds*.
*in-forum joke, just ask around, or PM me.

I dunno i suppose they sound similar but there are so different factors like what Paulie says but what i will say is the new 2010 360/12s are cool as....especially in FGFolkie wrote:Thanks for the encouragement, Scott. Is there a noticeable difference in tone between the 330/12 and the 360/12?

I may not be willing to make such a large investment, but I will keep you posted.
Re: New 360/12 Order
Hey Robert....try playing your new 360/12 through 2 amps using the Rick-O-Sound jack and tell us what you think.

I would at least get something a little different. A 360 and a 330 are pretty much the same thing. How about a solid body? A six string? PotR has some nice 620/12s.

He who dies with the most Rics--wins.

That'll be me just after I get caught breaking into Grahams Rickenbacker storage shed!gretsch929 wrote:He who dies with the most Rics--wins.
Re: New 360/12 Order
It's almost my birthday, so I'm tempted to order up that new 360/12! I'm not really interested in owning a 360 six-string; they look and sound lovely, but they just don't scream RICKENBACKER the way the 12-strings do. The 620/12's supposedly sound great and are easier to play, but I just don't like the LOOK of the body shape. I certainly don't want a sonic clone of my cherished 330/12 (the 360's look nicer with the rounded cutaway, the wedge inlays, and the Fireglo color,
but looks aren't enough to justify a $2000 purchase).
If I order up the 360/12, I may have my tech do some mods. I'm in a quandary about this: I've been very happy with the hi gain pickups on my 330/12. With a D'Addario round wound string set and a Janglebox JB2, I can get plenty of trebly edge and authentic sixties vibe. On the other hand, I've heard what many on this forum have said about replacing hi gains with toaster tops to accentuate the high frequencies. What confuses me is that many players will swap out the hi gains for toasters and then use flat wound strings. Wouldn't the flat wound strings dampen or muffle the trebly edge of the guitar and hence counteract the effect of the toaster tops?
I'd be interested to know what a pair of toaster tops goes for these days. My tech says he can replace the hi gains with toasters for just $25 labor.
So those are my thoughts and concerns. Any advice?
