Changed from R to a Trapeze tailpieces, some questions..

Post by kingblud »

Hi all, I changed the R tailpiece on my 08 330 to a trapeze. As others have reported, the tone is somewhat sharper, more metallic I suppose. I actually like it this way, it sounds the same plugged in but unplugged it's a nicer tone I think.

One thing I noticed is the buzzing issues I was sporadically having seem to be gone. What would changing the tailpiece do that could cause this? A better string angle over the bridge? Dumb luck? The new strings (I kept the same brand and size)? I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this.

Also, my old trick of shoving a piece of felt in the tailpiece to shut down the sympathetic vibrations is not as effective as it was with the R. What, if anything, do you guys use? Thanks!!
