R.I.P. John Lennon - 30 Years Ago Today
John was taken from this world 30 years ago, on December 8, 1980; an immeasurable loss.
I saw him perform with the Beatles on September 2, 1964 at Philadelphia Convention Hall, and it changed my life forever.
Rest in Peace, John.
And, thank you.

In some ways, it seems much longer ago than that. And sometimes it seems like it was only yesterday.

+1 on that. OK, I'll say it, I've never been a big Beatles fan. But John Lennon's death was a tragedy and the world is a far poorer place without him...
R.I.P. John...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

One of those once in a lifetime type folks, who had seemed to have tamed most of his demons when he untimely departed this world... I still miss his scarastic wit.

Re: R.I.P. John Lennon - 30 Years Ago Today
This morning I put together a playlist with his best solo material and most memorable Beatles material to listen to today. I had students asking me what it was all about and some left with a profound sense of senseless killing.

I'll never forget the news report that evening. I hoped it was a hoax.
RIP John Lennon, you are missed.

Like many of you forumites, I suspect the Beatles were a huge factor in you picking up an instrument in the first place let alone a Rickenbacker. Indeed this was a huge loss for humanity and is one of those history defining moments like the moon landing, JFK, 911 etc where you will always remember where you were and what you were doing. Today I honour his memory buy picking up my axe and playing some of his music and acknowledge my eternal gratitude for learning how to play.
God Bless you JWL and may your soul know the peace you so wished for all of us.

Oh yeah, and as it turns out, the Dakota doorman had CIA connections.

He is in my thoughts today too... I grieve with those who knew and loved him..
And I try to carry the message of all that he believed in...

You gotta wonder what a 70 year old Lennon would be writing and playing.

I don't think that had anything to do with a crazy man's actions.
