Post by BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS »

thought you'd like to see what a gibson grabber g-3 looks like with a ricky style bridge. way better than the gibson version. had an ebony board installed. this bass sounds KiLLeR ! :D

I'd never even heard of these before. A Google search yields some interesting results, looks like some of them were fitted with a 'moveable pickup'. Really strange basses.

Cool mod though.

Gene Simmons had a grabber years ago. I of course being young and impressionable convinced my parents to buy me one. They were awesome basses, very playable and have a bit of a growl to them. Ronbo yours looks very cool

that bass belongs to a buddy of mine. i do have a grabber bass with the sliding pickup, and had gene simmons sign it back in 1990. my grabber was the early neck with the skunk stripe truss rod inlay thru the back like the p-basses.

look at "kiss alive" cover...i though that was cool back in '75 ! gene had the early one like mine which has the headstock in nline with the neck a la p-bass. the one pictured has (had before installing an ebony board) a separate maple fingerboard and glued on headstock with great pitch. gibson also made the "ripper" which gene and greg lake had in all black on the same body design with set neck. the g-3 was used by rick danko from "the band" and jonathan lodge from the "moody blues"in sunburst.

next cool mod could be a rick 4001 pickup arangement with that bridge assy!

Interesting looking with the Rick tailpiece/bridge on it. I used to have a Ripper back in the mid '70s. IIRC, I bought because of it's association with Greg Lake.
