Happy Solstice!

Post by cjj »

Just wanting to wish everyone in the Northern Hemisphere a great Winter Solstice, and a great Summer Solstice to those of you in the South! Here in the North, our days will steadily be getting longer, even though Winter weather tends to linger for for a while yet. :D

And, as an added bonus, there's an eclipse of the moon tonight! According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, only the second to occur on a solstice since year 1 (the last being in 1638). Go outside and take a look around 02:41 EST, it'll be your last chance to see one until 2094...

We won't be able to see the eclipse in So Cal. We we've had record shattering rain (so a headline on Yahoo said) and there's plenty more to come!

Well, that's too bad. It may be too cloudy here as well.

I suppose I should clarify what I said just a bit. Yes, there will be plenty more lunar eclipses to come, just coincidentally with a solstice...

It's clear here but I doubt that I'll be getting up at 2:41. The moon looks huge at the moment.

Well we would not be able to see it because it's snowing here.

On this year's winter solstice I really feel like the ancient god that goes underground for a while until spring comes. Connection with the seasons can be enlightening but it can also be tumultuous.
