New 360/12 Fireglo!

Post by Folkie »

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered my new Fireglo 360/12 from Pick of the Ricks. It's the guitar I've dreamed of owning ever since I started playing back in 1988. It should arrive around January 7th. What a nice way to ring in the New Year!

Chris Clayton was a pleasure to deal with every step along the way. It's reassuring to know that my guitar is being set up by a real expert.

This will be my first Rick with toaster tops. I'm anticipating a different sound from my 330/12, which has hi gains. That's not to say I've been disappointed with the 330. Since I got my Janglebox about a year ago, I've been playing that 330/12 more than any other guitar I own, including my beloved Stratocaster.

My next step will be to do some direct recording with the new Rick and Janglebox. I have an awful singing voice, so I'll have to have a friend sit in on vocals. And my drum machine has a rather steep learning curve. But the sound clips on this site have really inspired me.

I had the pleasure of dealing with POTR some months back - from the other side of the Atlantic - and found them to be very helpful and professional.

I hope you enjoy your new Rickenbacker 360/12. I am fortunate enough to own a 2007 model in Amber Fireglo and it has a personality all of it's own.

Maybe see you at MARF?

That 2007 360/12 in Amber Fireglo sounds like a real beauty! Would you mind posting a photo of her?

I'm trying to rig up some group shots of my Ric collection right now, to post on the forum - a task which is not being helped by short daylight hours and very poor natural light (we have had a lot of snow and fog here in the UK in the past few weeks). If progress continues to be slow, I will at least try and get the 360/12 AFG photographed and shared with interested members. I have a number of Amber Fireglo Rics and it would be nice to get them together in the one shot.

Robert, I own both a 330-12 with hi-gains and a 360-12 with toasters. The sounds of the two guitars are quite different, with the 360-12 being more clear, bright, and jingly, whereas the 330-12 is more throaty, fuller, and warmer sounding. While the 360-12 is more distinct in its sound, this 330-12 is becoming my favorite, as it just works so well for me with no other instrumental accompaniment. I really enjoy owning both, and imagine you will as well.

I'm so glad you sent that post, because I had some degree of ambivalence over whether I could justify owning two Rick 12's. With the proper settings on my Janglebox, my 330/12 can sound quite clear and bright. But I expect even more treble and chime from the 360/12, which I just found out has been shipped from POTR today. As an experiment, I had Chris Clayton set up the new guitar with Thomastik Infeld flatwounds. I chose Fireglo because it's the color I've always dreamed of owning (my 330/12 is red with black hardware). I've seen McGuinn and Tom Petty with Mapleglo 360's, but I think Fireglo is the most beautiful.

Justification ??? What does that have to do with acquiring Rics ?? :D :D
Let's not get priorities confused ... Everyone deserves a spare Ric 12-string. :D
