Re: George's Duo Jet Reissue
No thanks; I'd rather have the non-beat up model Gretsch had (has?) available that's the same model, except in brand new condition, not all beat up and worn out to look just like George's.

I couldn't agree more.paologregorio wrote:No thanks; I'd rather have the non-beat up model Gretsch had (has?) available that's the same model, except in brand new condition, not all beat up and worn out to look just like George's.

Really, I'll put my own marks on it...

Yup. I put my own marks on my guitars.

wow.... is this thing REALLY one of those factory "worn" things?.... pathetic. ..... and I say the same thing about the "pre worn" clothes they are selling these days.
I know this is blasphemy, but the other day I was in my local music store and picked up a Gretsch Duo Jet and also a Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet. I didn't plug them in so cannot comment on the sound, but I actually liked the feel of the cheaper Electromatic better than the real Gretsch.

Re: George's Duo Jet Reissue
At the price of the Relic, one could buy two of the non-relic models and have major $ left over; one to play all the time and put the war marks in, one to keep brand new in its case under the bed, and a few grand left over.
I'd call them both real Gretsches; it's cool the company has a lower priced line that captures the general look and feel of the brand without having to match the hitorical details of a specific model and year.
I don't think it's "blasphemy" to prefer a less expensive model to its pricier cousin; one's choice of guitar is a personal preference.
If you like the model, buy it and be happy. I've heard nothing but good things about the Electromatic line. Owners usually mention slightly inferior though still satisfactory finish, and some dissatisfaction with the pickups, compared to the Terada factory models, but anyone with a little patience can polish up a finish to one's satisfaction, and a pickup swap is much less than the difference in price between the two models, if one feels the need to do either of these things at all.

wise words, to be surea pickup swap is much less than the difference in price between the two models, if one feels the need to do either of these things at all.

Re: George's Duo Jet Reissue
I spoke with a couple of folks from Gretsch today when they stopped by the booth; Gretsch is going to offer a more modestly priced replica, w/o the dents, I think.
