RONBO'S RM 1999/4001s DK-581

Post by BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS »

this is what it looked like after i got it with the '57 chevy blue paint but after i added a bristol board pick guard and '73 pickups to get it functional. it had two sets of p-bass pickups and a large black plastic guard with no surround.

i then painted it snow white, but as the paint dried it curdled, so i stripped it off except for the headstock, left the rear of the neck in natural gloss and painted the body with black acrylic gloss. made my own pickguard out of scrap white plexi, and added my MD-1252 pickups and '85 vintage series surround with modded scallop and kurz-kasche knobs. i used it the KiLLeR DWaRf VID "STAND TALL" that you can see on youtube.com my avatar has my '64 in a transition bare wood mode.

my buddy borrowed my three ricks for his video shoot so i asked him to shoot the basses with his cell.

I like both paint jobs. It's a little tough to see the '57 Chevy blue, but it lookes like it would have been a cool combination with the natural neck.
Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).

I wonder what it would look like with centre of the headstock painted black but with the headwings left natural?

i don't think black would bring out the wood contrast as well as white does. i tried the squire paintjob and failed miserably. the headstock paint, front and back is all that remains with the clear coat.

Cool 8)
If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!

for some reason...i did not document this bass when i first got it, nor the bad white paintjob i performed after stripping it, following the complete headstock replacement down to the 3rd fret. i was not in my usual record keeping mode. the soundcheck shot in '57 chevy blue is the only existing pic. not even a pic when the head stock fell off later that evening !!!
