Did Ric change the FireGlo color in the 90's?

Hi Everyone,

I just saw a 330 FireGlo that looked more like a "vintage Sunburst" that you'd see in a Epiphone/Gibson/Fender. Fireglo like normal, but with a dark more ruddy orange around all the outside edges of the guitar. The FireGlo that I've mostly seen doesn't have that dark "fade to dark" on the outside of it. Hope my description makes since. Will try to pull photo's if I can figure how to get them into a post.

Actually, in addition to the color change due to aging, there can be a bit of variation in both the colors used and how much burst there is (color gradient from outer to inner).

If I can ever get the time when the sun is right for a shot outdoors, I will take a 'group picture' of my Fireglos for comparison.

Right, that's actually what I meant. Not a "one off" in the sense that it was specially made that way, but one off in the sense that for whatever reason it just came out differently than the rest, it wasen't a change that applied to allfireglo finishes.

I think there have been some variations in Fireglo over the years (ie, ClownGlo?)and it is a handsprayed finish, so there are bound to be differences. How it was photographed makes a difference, too.

There was a period when the center appeared more pink, than yellow/amber, but I think my '09 360 is amazingly shaded from yellowish to very dark red at the edges.

I'm still on the hunt for a 330 FireGlo. I'm liking the JetGlo I just bought however and may give up on it. Still thinking about vintage toasters on the 330 however.

You should line up 360's from 1963 to 1969.

They changed every single year. In fact, I'd be willing to bet money that I could tell a Ric's year from the Fireglo, if it's made between those years.


They have changed over and over throughout the years, and it's impossible to nail down an "official" fireglo. Heck, even the old vintage finishes have aged over 40-50 years and aren't accurate to what they were originally anyways.

The multitude of different fireglos are what make some great and some exceptionally great, imo. Variety rules!

My first Rick was a late 70's early 80's 360 FireGlo that went from blood red to a pink/melon color... Not what seems to be desired by all the Amber FireGlo folks, but man, it was beautiful. Should have never let it go.
