Pickup mix and match?

Post by kelly »

I was wondering if anyone on the forum has ever put both a Toaster and a Hi-Gain pickup on any of their Rickenbackers? I have a new 330-12 with Hi-Gains on it but I want to switch the bridge pickup to a Toaster for more vintage tones. As I generally only use the bridge pickup, I don't necessarily want to spend another $150 for a second Toaster and thought if I wanted any darker tones I could just blend in a little Hi-Gain from the neck. Are there any weird impedance issues or anything that would cause problems with having both types of pickups in the guitar? Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

The only issue that you will have is whether or not you like the way the two sound together. In both of my 480's I put a toaster with the 0.0047 cap in the bridge and a Ric humbucker in the neck position. No issues and love it. I get the chime I want and blend in some sustain and low end out of the neck.
Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).
