It Was 30 Years Ago Today...

Post by wints »

~As it is already the 27th in the UK, I can go ahead and post this...

30 years ago today, in my first year in college, I slipped away in the afternoon, and went to look at my first Rickenbacker bass. After a two hour train ride, clutching the envelope of cash very tightly, I arrived at the sellers house full of anticipation. I didn't know much about them, except they sounded great, looked cool, and Chris Squire had one.

He opened the case, I blinked...and handed him the money before I had even touched it! :D

Getting DH163 out of it's case this afternoon, once again I am amazed at how thin that neck feels, and, how wonderfully resonant it sounds, both acoustically and amplified. Simply put, what a great, great bass it is.

Thanks to this wonderful forum, I have found out much more about it, and so, on this anniversary, my thanks again to all who have helped over the years and commented so kindly. :D

I hope you don't mind, Wints, but for the newbies around here, you really should tell the complete story of this bass. There are probably several folks wondering what causes your enthusiasm. :D

Great story Wints, your bass was my inspiration to have one of my 73's refined in white (almost done). I mean, if a Bee Gee can do it, why can't I?

Happy anniversary to you two...Andrew Winter & Rose Maurice! :D

Sounds like a marriage made in heaven!

Will you be renewing your vows?

Simply amazing story!

When did you realize that it's the BG's bass?

Did the seller tell you how he obtained it?

Kudos,and happy anniversary,Sir! That white-on-white is fab,what with it being a non-yellowing finish. I wish I had hung on to my black-on-black 4000 from 30-plus years ago!

Cool C64, Andrew. How did you get RIC to put the headstock on the wrong way?
