Wild '62-'63 625
I was looking thru Rick pics on my hard drive and came across this one. May have been discussed before but I thought it was different enough to repost......
Re: Wild '62-'63 625
What kind of tailpiece is that?
Re: Wild '62-'63 625
That's wild, a 625 with a 425/450 bridge. You can see how part of the lower guard was cut away to make room for the wide bridge.
Yeah, what is that TP all about? There doesn't seem to be anything anchoring it to the bottom /strap button of the guitar.

Is that tailpiece possibly a Boyd Vibe? The time frame is right--in another thread I posted a while back, I asked if anyone had any information on the Boyd. Several people posted with patent drawings, but I don't think there were any photos. The only other place I've even seen the Boyd Vibe mentioned was in Richard Smith's Rickenbacker book--no photos there. Those things must be incredibly scarce, and judging from the patent drawings, it doesn't seem like they worked very well.

Email Deke Dickerson. He knows about Boyds. I'm pretty sure he even has one NOS in a box!
