Wiring schematic for a 350SH

Post by voyager55 »

Hi,
Since yesterday I am proud owner of a 350SH in used but very good condition, a real beauty :D #151

What's confusing me a little bit is the sound when neck/mid and bridge PU are combined (mid position of toggle switch).
It sounds very nasal, like there were out of phase. So I would like to know if anybody can help me to show the factory wiring of the 350SH.
I hardly can imagine that this one is wired correctly, maybe it was modified by the pre-owner.
Assuming that neck/mid PU's are 12k toasters they sound even more crunchy as I expected - so I would also need some hints of their wiring as well - could those have been hard-wired in series instead of parallel?

Many thanks if someone could help me out - I could not retrieve the old description from the usenet anymore that was mentioned before in a similar topic.

Cheers ,
Peter

It should be wired up like a 5 control, 3 PU, mono model, schematic here: http://www.rickenbacker.com/service_g_schematics.asp

Except the bridge PU is a humbucker, so that would be wired up as shown in the HB schematic at the bottom of the page.

Ok fine,
that's what I assumed as it should be - so except the HB - it's like the usual 350 as shown there.
The HB has a green wire instead of blue, DC resistance is 13k7 ( I removed the pickguards and measured ).
Still mysterious why the neck/mid combination comes out from the slot with just 1 hot wire and shield, measures 22K8 !
Obviously connected in series directly under the pickups which I do not have in sight directly, I didn't remove the strings so far.

I have exchanged the green with red and: Tataah ! They have not been in phase with the neck/mid combi. before.
Now it sounds very close to what I expected - I will try change to the series into parallel later then ( or keep it via a push-pull as a mod... )

Some people seem to be doing odd things with such a rarity...

Many thanks !

For sure I will show some pics but before I will change the wiring back to its original and re-string.
Another topic I have to fix later is exchanging the nut. One of the pre-owners had cut it deeper than normal - consequently the neck is not dead straight as it should be.
Anyway there is no buzzing so I am not in a hurry with that one.
