another color question

Post by grazioso »

how common is the cavity with penciled in designation for different color than what was later put on the instrument at the factory? i am asking since one of my jetglo 450
guitars is marked NAT in the cavity.
dusan palka who is also known as grazioso on infamous auction web site

Well, I suppose it depends upon just what you mean by "common", Dusan. There are things that are "common" that are generally understood to be not so "common", and then there are things that are not so "common" that are generally understood to be "common".

Then there are the "common" things that really are "uncommon", and the "uncommon" things that really are "common".

Third group: The "common" things that we understand to be "common". In this case, the "uncommon" things can be either "uncommon" or "nonexistent" (assuming all things are "common").

Short answer: "I don't know."

Uncommonly clear... Or is that clearly uncommon...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Elsewhere, Mr Hall has pointed out the basic thought that '...all Jetglows are black for a reason' Perhaps yours was on it's way to Mapleglow land when there was a small 'oops' on the production line, resulting in a required change of direction and a color change to hide a very small flaw.... I have heard that natural mapleglows are the hardest finish to get 'right'..

UN-common, but perhaps a trifle MORE common than commonly believed..... maybe

Hey Kevin.....I think you're right about the MG being the most difficult.....My 360 MG has a run in the paint. Not too cool but it's about 50 years too late for any warrantee work....if I could get it that is.
Paul....I DO believe that would be considered UNcommon....HEH

David: I've never seen a factory RIC paint job with any runs in the clearcoat. That would be a first. Most uncommon.

To clarify Paul's point a bit, as a man - he may be great or otherwise - once said not so long ago:

As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns.
That is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know.

and this situation of the paint job and the pencilling, well it is kind of like one of these.

I hope that I've sorted it!

My May 72 Jetglo 4001 has no skunk stripe and has Walnut wings, yet I see most 72's with the strip and minus Walnuts.

This topic's far too confusing; I'm going back to my law casebooks for some light reading.

I suppose a topic can drift, where with law, it's the law.
