Dreams do come true!

Post by coolingitdown »

Hi all!

I wanted to wait to post this until I had some pictures to go with it, but I just can't keep the news to myself anymore.

My brand new 4001C64 in Fireglo (manufactured August 2010) arrived from Wildwood Guitars in Colorado on Tuesday! I've got it out of the box now, and it is an absolutely GORGEOUS bass! And the sound...oh, the sound! It had a strong, loud growl before I plugged it in, and it just roared after I plugged it in! That 1/2"-spaced toaster has a completely different character than the 1"-spaced hi-gain. I currently have TI flats on it, but if I'm not happy with the feel anymore(a distinct possibility, since I'm now used to better balanced sets), I may fall back on the Fender 9050CL set (assuming the 9050CL set can do a good McCartney impersonation).

I have to give my sincerest thanks to a few of the different people involved:

First, my wife for saying she was okay with me getting another Rick. Most awesome wife ever!

Thanks to Bruce at Wildwood for making the sale and answering all my questions in a timely and patient manner. He was a joy to interact with! I heartily recommend to anybody looking to buy a new Rick to do so at Wildwood!

RRF's very own Joshua Chandler for responding to my question about his experience with Wildwood by going to the store and playing the bass and sharing his thoughts on it. It was great to have someone I trust be able to test drive the bass since I was not able to!

And to all of you who have posted information about the 4001C64 here on the forums. Your input helped in my decision to go pursue one in the first place. Thanks!

P.S.: Don't worry, my 4003 will NOT be getting lonely in my closet. I intend to put Circle K balanced .112 rounds on it and use it in my alternative/hard rock band.

Interesting you should mention that...it occurred to me the other day that my 4003FG was manufactured January 2010, meaning it should still have the old CV finish. The 4001C64 (also Fireglo), being manufactured in August 2010, should have the new UV-cured finish.

It will be interesting to see how the finishes age in relation to each other in spite of the fact that they were only manufactured 7 months apart. I haven't put them side by side yet, but the finishes seem really similar (absolutely stunning!).

There will be a family photo when I post pics, hopefully no later than tomorrow afternoon.

EDIT: Okay, I do have a couple of pictures, but only of me pulling the instrument out of the box after shipping (as Joey recommends). They don't really show the bass all that well.

Congrats! The C64s are great basses - I love mine. I also bought my Fireglo C64 (and my 4003, and both of my 4004Ciis) from Wildwood - great folks to deal with. Let us know which set of flats you end up preferring.

Again, congrats, and enjoy!

Congratulations Jonathan! When you take a break from breaking it in maybe you could post a couple of pics. That way we could live vicariously at the arrival of another bass!
