Delayed gratification (new 620-12)

Post by jdawe »

About six weeks ago I pulled the trigger on a new JG 620-12 from POTR. Since I was travelling to the Philly area over Easter I decided to save a few bucks and pick it up from Chris in person last weekend rather than have it shipped up to me in Canada. It was a long wait (and as we all know the waiting is the hardest part). But having finally got my hands on the guitar last Saturday, all I can say is ... wow.

I had very little prior experience with12-strings and have been amazed how easy the 620-12 is to play -- the action is fantastic and it really feels not much different from a 6-string. The combination of the TI flats and Chris's excellent setup probably has a lot to do with this. While I understand that some people don't like the narrow neck, I have fairly small hands and haven't had any issues with it. As for the sound ... lets just say its everything I'd expected and hoped for. I've wanted all my life to be able to get that sound out of my guitar ... and now I can.

Many thanks to Jason Z. (LEL) for his invaluable advice about the 620-12 and to Chris of POTR, who was a real pleasure to deal with. And, of course, to John Hall and Co. for making such great guitars.

And now, on to the (embarrasingly low-quality) pictures. (Note: JetGlo haters may want to go get a coffee or something).

Congrats Jonathan! Nice to see another 620 in Canada. JG is the nicest shade of Rickenbacker!!

I think I played this one!

There was a MID, an MG, and this JG...and the JG played the best of all three! Congrats!

Congrats Jonathan. :)
By the way, in the picture of the trio, what exact color is your 430 model, as the headstock looks FG ?

The 430 has a JG body but an unpainted varnished maple headstock. I think this is how all 430 headstocks are finished.

I should add that the golden blotch in the 430 pic is just a reflection from the flash or the ceiling light - the body is actually uniformly JG.

There are no Jetglo haters on this forum, in fact, it is the most desired color by everyone, here. 8) Well, there might be one or possibly, two  that are crazy enough to not enjoy a Jetglo once in a while.

Congrats on the 620/12. :D I think we ALL played it at MARF.
