Top Ten Beatles Songs with Rick 12
Top Ten Beatles Songs with Rick 12
I'm starting this thread out of curiosity more than anything else. I know a handful of great Beatles songs that were tracked with a Rick 12, but I haven't listened to their early catalog for many years, so I was hoping to get some pointers from the Beatles experts here. Other than "A Hard Day's Night," "Every Little Thing," "Ticket to Ride," and "If I Needed Someone," which Beatles songs were recorded with a Rick 12? If possible, please list them all (including those I mentioned) in order of preference. If you find it invidious to do so, feel free to list them in any order. Any studio secrets such as double-tracking, compression, etc. are especially welcome. I hope this thread will generate a little fun. So, Beatles aficionados, let me pick your brains and learn a little more about how the signature sound of the Rickenbacker 12-string was integral to the musical vision of the greatest rock band ever.

See this thread. I had put together a list that had a few errors, but it was mostly complete.

Re: Top Ten Beatles Songs with Rick 12
Question: Wasn't the prototype for the 360/12 made in early 1964, and is it possible that some of the early Beatles stuff listed here was played on a different 12-string? Related question: Didn't John Lennon have his own Rick 12? What model was that?

The only electric 12 strings that were officially on Beatles records, IIRC, were George's 360/12 OS and 360/12 NS and John's 325/12 (really a 320/12).

Re: Top Ten Beatles Songs with Rick 12
Thanks, Matt, for the prompt and educated answers to my questions. I thought I'd come up with a really original idea for a Beatles thread, but, as often happens here, I got scooped. That link you gave us answers just about all the questions I posed in this thread. I've only been on the forum a little over a year, so I regret not being a part of the earlier discussion. If anyone else has more insights, please chime in!

Re: Top Ten Beatles Songs with Rick 12
is there a 12 string on "and your bird can sing"?
Re: Top Ten Beatles Songs with Rick 12
According to other members of this forum, the first take of "And Your Bird Can Sing" (on the Beatles "Anthology") was indeed played with Harrison's 360/12. But the final version on "Revolver" was done with two six-strings in unison.

Yes... Very Byrd's like. In D.Folkie wrote:According to other members of this forum, the first take of "And Your Bird Can Sing" (on the Beatles "Anthology") was indeed played with Harrison's 360/12. But the final version on "Revolver" was done with two six-strings in unison.
