Cast is off but it looks bad

Hi guys.
A month ago I broke my right hand (metacarpal bone #5, "boxer's fracture").
Today I finally got my cast removed and it doesn't look good The doctor who looked at it wasn't a hand specialist but it looks like my pinky is scissoring, in other words - when I clench my fist (as much as i can which isn't that much...) my pinky is bending a little bit towards the middle of my hand (it should be pretty much parallel to the other fingers).
It is still unclear what will happen, I am scheduled to meet a hand specialist on Tuesday and then I'll know, but it looks like I am in for a surgery
Very frustrating.
Had to vent, sorry.

The moral of the story is - don't punch the wall (or in my case - the front HT speaker) if you get upset.
They should change the fracture's name from "Boxer's fracture" to "Idiot's fracture".

Ouch, indeed. Hope you can get it straightened out soon! In cases like these I always remember what my grandfather used to say about doctors. He was the facilities/construction manager for a regional hospital and spent a lot of time around docs and surgeons.

Mu hand looks a bit better today, movement has improved since yesterday but it still hurts...

Doug - yup, I was given an intern to reduce the angulation of my bone, he tried 3 times and couldn't make it right, mind you - he was pulling and pushing my broken bone, can't even start to describe the pain... Then came his resident and did it right (not that right apparently, judging by my bone angulation).

Hopefully it will turn out OK eventually. I dislocated my right finger pinky playing "beach" volleyball back in the 90's and it never straightened out completely and there is a slight curve into the ring finger. The guy on the other team spiked the ball right into the finger. I am right handed, so it isn't my fretting hand. I can bend it all the way in, however.

My left hand ring finger has a calcified tendon at the last joint due to catching an American football the wrong way and snapping the tendon, meaning that I can't lift up the very end of the finger, so it hangs down a bit. The top of the joint also is pointed rather than flat from the calcification. This is on my fretting hand, but it hasn't limited me as you are pressing down when fretting a note. I've had this issue from essentially when I started playing bass when a teen.

I remember going to a joint specialist with my Dad after it happened. The guy was blunt and said that he could operate, but it may come out worse than it was. He noted that some famous guitarist (Segovia?) was playing with a similar issue. As long as I could press down I'd be OK. We decided to leave it alone.
