Treble bezel opinion
Gang,
I'm 80% sure I'll be removing the factory treble cover from my 2001 4003. Not that I don't like it or the way it looks but to acquire a comfortable "perch" to access the strings closer to the bridge. I came across this one and I think it has that features that I would like.
http://www.pickofthericks.com/products/ ... -4003.html
I'm leaning toward either the cove or the delux. Does any one have an opinion on this product? At first i was looking into a set up from Pickguardian but I think either the cove or the delux would be more in line with what I hope to achieve.
While I'm able to anchor my thumb on the edge of the pickguard near the neck pick up, since I'm use to perching on the thumb rest on my early 1980's Fender P bass, I'm looking to pick up the deeper tones closer to the bridge.
Once again, opinions of this product, either good or bad will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Sepp

Re: Treble bezel opinion
I don't have one of those Treble Pickup Bezels, but it does seems to look like a well thought out, well made product. It looks much nicer in my eyes than the Pickguardian option. Pickguardain makes nice products also, but I personally don't care for the look pf their 4001/4003 treble pickup surround option.

Re: Treble bezel opinion
You're not going to get deeper tones plucking closer to the bridge--it's the other way around. It will sound more focused but lose some bass. This is why I stay over the neck pickup most of the time.
I like the plain bezels a lot and use them on all of my basses that have the big pickup surround we are accustomed to with Rics. The whole cove/rest/whatever stuff would just be distracting to me.

Jason,
Thanks for the link! Although there was limited input, It seems either the cove or delux is a good product. I just need to make a choice, place the order, and give it a try. Whichever one I choose, I'll post up a foto and a review as well.
Thanks again!

I have tried all 3 and I like the deluxe best. It doesn't get in the way if you use a pick, but is there when you need it. The cove was well-designed, but just felt "off" to me.Kopfjaeger wrote:Jason,

Sepp, go for it! It is such an ease!
The sweet spot for picking just above the PU is freely accessible!
Re: Treble bezel opinion
I am so used to anchoring my thumb on the rear pickup that the insert does nothing for me. I am used to having the hole where the cover was removed and I tried a couple(still have the BRAND NEW pickguardian setup here in plastic) and don't care for any of them.

Well, made the purchase, the deluxe, this morning and it's due to arrive in a few days. I'll post fotos and thoughts after it is on.

Re: Treble bezel opinion
Good choice, IMO. I bought the deluxe for my 4003 and have been very happy with it. The thumb rest is placed exactly where a 5th string would be, so it feels very natural to me.
Although, I must note, there have been a couple of times I tried to pluck the thumb rest because it did feel so natural!

Re: Treble bezel opinion
I like them gonna have them installed in my other two 4003's and 4001, had a horseshoe installed in my 084003 plan on getting horse shoes in the other two 4003's and the 4001 , not big on the high gain pick ups, too noisy, and prefer the toaster/horse shoe combo much better..

Hmm, Want to buy this?ricaddic wrote:I...prefer the toaster/horse shoe combo much better..
Re: Treble bezel opinion
I used to have the original bezel on my 4003, now have the cove model, feels quite natural, my thumb anchors as it would on a jazz bass pup.

Re: Treble bezel opinion
Well Jeff that is one sweet bass but like you favoring your sweet Elfin basses and rightly so, im not looking to spend that kinda money on another Ric. I hardly play the 8 I already have, (when there playable..lol) actually thinking of thinning out my Ric portion of my arsenal, some other basses I have my eye on I may pull the trigger and go after, but we will see, but if they continue to be passed over and unplayed, no sense in keeping them, when I could have something that will get decent play time..jps wrote:Hmm, Want to buy this?ricaddic wrote:I...prefer the toaster/horse shoe combo much better..We want to come back to Philly later this year, I can deliver it to you.
