Killing Joke Paul Raven

Post by Kopfjaeger »

Paul Raven from Killing Joke then Ministry played a Rickenbacker 4001 during the bands first album tour of the USA. I was pressed up in front of the stage right in front of Raven for their show at the Ritz in NYC. I believe he played a fireglow while wearing a white suit jacket. Great show that was. I use to have fotos since a friend was a semi pro photog. Until I find fotos, you're just going ot have to take my word for it!! LOL!!!

I saw him on one of the Pigface tours forever ago. I have no idea what he was playing. There was alot going on in a tiny space.

Looking forward to the photos.

Sorry, can't find any of my ancient band fotos but this is approx. the same vintage and it seems the exact clothing raven was wearing when I saw them in NYC. In the You Tube search I did, it seems raven used a wide variety of basses but here is proof that in the early days, he used a Rick 4001. This one was in black and white but in other video's, it s burgundy or fireglo as I had remembered.

The video quality is poor but it gives a few good bass views and the sound is not bad.

Too bad the Killing Joke never got the credit they deserve for Nirvana's "Come as You Are." Great band.

It's the original bassist Youth (Martin Glover) playing bass here, not Paul Raven. Youth departed after the third album in 1982 and then Paul stepped in. Youth uses a Rickenbacker again as the original line-up has reformed. Raven played Wal and Status basses during the eighties.

Thanks for the correction. i had thought Youth stepped away before the US tour. I guess I made the assumption Raven was the bass player I had seen since I thought he looked similar to the vision I had in my head from seeing them so many years ago.

This is even better, i had seen the original line up. Once again, thanks!
