MF bashing Rick?
Check out this descreption, it is a pretty blatant hint!

Forget jangle, this is a 12-string that punches through the mix.
The Gibson 50th Anniversary SG 12-string electric guitar has the look and sound of the most influential electric guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era, but this one has been given the 12-string treatment. Ideal for players who want the 12-string roar of mahogany body/humbucker SG without having to shoulder the EDS-1275 of Jimmy Page fame.
I'm pretty sure that RIC made the 12 stringer famous. Views?

Re: MF bashing Rick?
Well, Thank goodness! I for one couldn't be happier that Gibson has a 12 string in production. Now, maybe we won't have to listen to the Gibson guys whine about Rics. "The necks too skinny, wah, wah, wah", "The strings are backward, wah, wah, wah", "It doesn't feel like a Les Paul, wah, wah, wah", "It doesn't sound like a Les Paul, wah, wah, wah". Well of course a Ric doesn't feel or sound like a Gibson, it isn't one.

Heck, if it spares more Ricks from being butchered with humbucker pickup routs, Swiss-cheesed with drill holes to mount different bridges, and other indignities, I'm all for it. Congratulations to Gibson; I'm surprised the company didn't already have one in production, but I probably shouldn't be, given some of the dumb moves, and belated moves the company has made over the year.
Re: MF bashing Rick?
Ivan, just so you know how this works, MF doesn't typically write the product descriptions on their site/catalog. That was most likely written by the PR/Marketing team at Gibson, who would obviously hint at their biggest competition like that.

I agree: I thought the description seemed a bit Gibby when I read it, so I looked at the description at Gibson's website; though the actual text is different, there are similar references in the composition, and the description appears to have the same writing style .collin wrote:Ivan, just so you know how this works, MF doesn't typically write the product descriptions on their site/catalog. Not only do MF not have the staff to hand-write product descriptions of all of their merchandise, it's not common practice either. It's typically supplied to the catalog from the manufacturer, and can be modified to suit the catalog.

Here it is on Gibson's official site:

Re: MF bashing Rick?
Jimmy Page pretty much used a Fender 12 on the recordings, IIRC.
Re: MF bashing Rick?
I thought that the thread was rather interesting because of the title, that being some MF bashing Ric...
I saw that they were doing this some time ago. I was a little interested, but the new non-reverse Firebird with 3 P-90's is in my targets this year. It seems that maybe Gibson is finally turning a page and getting to some quality reissues and reinterpretations of classics that aren't completely ridiculous. The Les Paul players had their chance with the LP 12 that Epiphone was putting out for a long time.

Sarcasm just doesn't come through when you're typing...
Re: MF bashing Rick?
Jerry, you are correct. You might be hard pressed to find any Gibson on LZ 4 too.

You aren't tallking about the Firebird X? I don't know much beyond: automatic tuners - blectch! Onboard digital fx? - double bleechch! The overall appearance? Sorry, but I think this is one horse-faced guitar.lennon211 wrote: I was a little interested, but the new non-reverse Firebird with 3 P-90's is in my targets this year.

Re: MF bashing Rick?
I think Matt's talking about this:
http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri ... verse.aspx
I'm with Paulie, this SG 12 should save Rics from being gutting and routed. And, Jerry is correct, Page used a Fender XII in the studio. Live, he used the SG doubleneck for "Stairway to Heaven" and other tunes because the record SOUNDS LIKE he would do 12-string throughout and 6-string solos, making the doubleneck the pratical guitar.

Re: MF bashing Rick?
Whew! That's much better. While I never really liked the overall appearance of the Firebird, they are ( at least the old ones I've checked out) pretty good guitars and they especially play nicely.
So, my comments about the X don't reflect my feelings about the line in general.

Re: MF bashing Rick?
The way it is said on the gibson sight makes it sound fine. An ALTERNATIVE to jangle. Question here, is the stringing method on Rick 12's trademarked?

Actually, first time I had one in my hands at work I complained the SG-12 had the strings in the wrong orderClint wrote: "The strings are backward, wah, wah, wah", "
