Limited Edition Pickguards?

Post by LenMinNJ »

It looks like the upper pickguard on the Limited Edition guitars (like my 325JL) is clear and backpainted white after the signature and "Limited Edition" logo is applied.

Is that right for all Limited Editions?

And the lower pickguard looks like a standard Rick 'guard, all white.

Is that also correct for all Limited Editions?

I just noticed one difference between the 355JL upper pickguard and the 350SH upper pickguard.

The three points of the 'guard are rounded on the 355JL, while they are pointy on the 350SH (like a stock 350).

Interesting!

I would love to have a white Tom Petty guard...similar to the 660/12TP guard, but for a 1997, white and without "Limited Edition" on it.

You'd like to have a white pickguard for a 1997 with Tom Petty's signature?

That's it. I know they don't exist, and I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to stick a 660/12TP guard on a 1997, but it's always nice to dream.

Being silver, the top and bottom pickguards on the 381JK are both specific to that Limited Edition.

Well, I guess that goes for the 660-12TP Tom Petty Limited Edition too, as both of its pickguards are clear and backpainted gold.

Are the Limited Edition signatures and "Limited Edition" logos engraved into the back of the pickguard and then inked, or are they simply silkscreened (not engraved)?

If you look at the back of the pickguard, does it look engraved or is it completely flat?

If you mean like the old (and maybe new?) pickguards on Gretsches, then no.

Thanks!

So the back of the pickguard is level paint?

You may see a very slight raised relief of the signature but that is all.
