forumites on Skype?

Post by jdogric12 »

Ok, I was gifted an internet phone and thought maybe I'll hook up my camcorder and see if I can get Skype to work. I can't figure it out. I know a bunch of forumites used to Skype a lot. Does that still go on? Halp pleez.

I talked to you Graham and JB and Dave's house a few years back JDog. Remember Graham and John called me and were showing me some of Dave's "Rickentoys" and other gear. I think you were noodling away in the background at the time IIRC. Then again maybe not. It might have just all been a bad dream.

I remember it well!

I gave up last night. I think the main problem is my computer was made in 2002. It's time to upgrayedd. (The extra d is for a double dose of pimping.)

I'll give it a shot again tonight.

Skype dosen't have serious requirements. Having a high speed Internet connection will be more important than buying a new computer, all you need is a mic to do voice chat.

I find google (video) chat a good alternative.

That may be a good thing to check out. Now that Skype is owned by Microsoft, who know what it will turn into...

Been curious about Skype? What do you need to do it? Can you have jam sessions like I saw on those TV Commercials?

The requirements for Skype itself are pretty low, but the quality of the conference depends largely on your internet connection. The slower your connection, the more latency (lag) there will be in the call.
There are other, smaller factors like what type of mic you're using that play a part. I've played guitar over Skype before and it can be fun.

Also, just incase anyone was confused, the program and calls between other Skype users are completely free. Skype can also be used to make local calls to landlines or cell phones, and that's the only feature that costs money.

Nothing can be worse than Google, they're like Microsoft, but the latter's jealous of the former because of all the ways it can get away with snooping on your daily life for marketing purposes...
