I heard about this one several years ago. I'm glad to see that it's finally seeing release. There's a great write-up about it amid the usual dross in the most recent Rolling Stone where they detail much of the production and the angle of George's story. It sounds like it's going be a great film to see.

At last! George was always something of an enigma to me. This enigmatic quality seemed to make his quips, his humor, or the little sight gags he did in their movies all the funnier, because the fan magazines stereotyped him as the silent or quiet Beatle. It also made every song he sang, or wrote all that much more worth paying attention to for me. His biting wit in "Taxman" or the sheer and utter foolishness in "Piggies" and of course the devotion he expressed in "Something" are just a few of the songs of his that stand out in my memory. Maybe this movie will allow him to posthumously put aside that quiet Beatle image he had been saddled with.

Too bad it's only going to be seen on television. :( I wish it would be a theatre presentation.

Maybe some kind soul could bootleg it for those of us who don't get HBO.

David Mamet is doing a Spector pic with Al Pacino in the lead role. That's the only one that I know of that's currently in production.

And like all other HBO original productions, there should very well be a DVD/Blu-Ray release, hopefully with additional interview footage and outtakes that didn't make the initial presentation. In the Rolling Stone article, Scorsese discusses his pursuance of every bit of footage available that didn't make it into the Beatles Anthology or other projects. He wanted to show us new material that would really focus on George in a way that hasn't been done before. Also, there is footage of his doomed tour in 1974 and other rare concert/rehearsal footage. The premise was to show where George came from and where his spirituality took him after the Beatles. According to the quotes from Olivia Harrison, it was done in a "warts and all" attitude as they didn't want to portray George as a saint that he wasn't. I'm really looking forward to this and may convince the boss (read:wife) that we need to subscribe to HBO for the month...just to try it out.

Here's a few more details about this:

The UK Deluxe Edition includes 2 DVDs, a Blu-ray, a 96-page booklet and a CD of never-before-released George Harrison tracks. Pre-order your copy on Amazon.co.uk, or check your local retailer.

This should really be GREAT!!!!!!! :D
