I've come across a Rick Maple Glo 4001 Bass. It's serial # decodes it as being buit in 1976. It seems to be in good condition & plays well. The action is higher than I like but I assume that can be corrected as the neck appears straight. I can't see any serious problems at least from the outside. It was a Player as there are some Nicks & Scratches. Not super huge ones but enough so it wouldn't be considered more than Good. On a scale of 1- 10, 10 being pristine it's a 7 cosmetically.
Is there anything about a 1976 I should be aware of?
What would you estimate it to be worth?
Thanks,
Glenn
What's it worth?

Re: What's it worth?
If you go to the Ric register and search for later dated 4001's (1974-1982) you will get the avg. median prices from Ebay completed auctions. That will give you a ball park idea. Good luck.
Re: What's it worth?
The two I've played have had great necks, and great bite in the tone.larsongs wrote:Is there anything about a 1976 I should be aware of?

Re: What's it worth?
Thanks for the Tip's. The Register was pretty informative. Are those actual selling prices? Are they a little inflated for this Market?
I played it & it did play nice except for the Action being too high for my taste. I don't have anything to compare it to, as in another Rick 4001 Bass for comparison though.
In buying used I'm always concerned that it's what you can't see that could be a problem. That & were there any Mod's done for better or worse.
I was wanting one in Fire Glo or Jet Glo. This wouldn't have been my first choice. It is Walrus period correct color though & if everything checks out it would be ok.
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: What's it worth?
Glenn, my late '75 is as the others state. I have the .0047uF cap bypassed to add to the bridge pickup response. Great feel and tone though. I would think for a '76 in a 7 condition the registry prices are in line. The 70s basses (post '73) are finally starting to get their respect.
Re: What's it worth?
I have seen these on Ebay consistently from $1850 to $2250.larsongs wrote:I've come across a Rick Maple Glo 4001 Bass. It's serial # decodes it as being buit in 1976.
