In praise of Janglebox

Okay.........I know this has been on the forum before but I still got to say it....The Janglebox ( I got the original black ) is superb. I wasn't really sure whether this would enhance the sound of my Rick (330/6) but it has surpassed all expectations...It really brings the Rick to life and I didn't think that would be possible as Rics sound superb anyway...After playing for 20 years, buying and selling goodness knows how many guitars, effects and amps, I've finally got the sound i've dreamt of.

Welcome to the forum and to the Janglebox Society! I'm glad to hear that you're as thrilled with your JB as I am with mine. For a while I was under the impression that the pedal worked best with 12-strings, but several people here have recently posted recordings of their 6-strings with the JB pedals, and the results are impressive. Visit Chapman Jones' original song "Give it Back" on the Recordings subforum. Like you, he plays a 330/6 through an original JB. The guitar sound is sublime!

Only compressor I use...extremely versatile, and really enhances the sound of any electric guitar, and even bass!

Have you tried your JB with your Fenders? Works great with mine!

Of course, Robert! The Tele gets a great Nashville chicken-pickin' sound with it, and with the Strat, it helps nail the tone of "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Sultans of Swing". However, on "Bright", it's too bright, making the odd honk I hear when I strike a string hard over the selected pickup even louder.

I've never tried it with a Gibson or Gretsch, simply because I don't own any. Who has tried a Janglebox with a Gretsch or Gibson?

Not me, for the simple reason that, like you, I don't own any Gretsches or Gibsons. But, boy, does it work wonders with my Stratocaster!

I tried my black Janglebox out on my '67 Gretsch 6075 12 String. It really improves the definition of the string courses ands adds a nice sustain. The 6075 sounds more like a traditional acoustic 12 string than Rick 12s do, but the JB works great on the Gretsch.

Does anyone use a JB2 or a Silver? I never use any petals except for a volume booster, but now that i've got a rick it might be nice to add a little extra jangle. Are these worth it? They are pretty expensive..

I wasn't too sure myself but they are worth it...If you get a guitar as good as a Ric it's well worth spending a little bit more just to complete the sound, for want of a better phrase......Imo, it does bring the guitar to its fullness. In fact, I wouldn't even think of playing my Ric now, without it.
I went for the JB original as it's made in the US, ( I believe the silver ones aren't but I could be wrong on that ) and Roger Mcguinn endorsed this pedal when there were no alternatives so if it was great in his opinion then it was good enough for me.

If by "silver ones" you mean the JB2, they are indeed handmade in the USA.

The Janglebox pedals are no more expensive than any of the other premium boutique compressors out there (like Keeleys) and their sound is head and shoulders above the competition. They work well with just about any guitar you can imagine, but they capture a particular magic with electric 12-strings. The original Janglebox is a classic, but I would recommend the JB2 models for maximum versatility. You'll find that every penny has been well-spent!

If by "silver ones" you mean the JB2, they are indeed handmade in the USA.

I believr the silver JB1's are imports.
