How do you identify fake TRC's?

Post by vintagemusicgear »

I'm beginning to see a lot of Ric TRC's pop up for sale. Some obviously look fake, some look pretty good. Any idea how to ID a fake one? I have a gold TRC with embossed letters on the back, so I figure that is legit. But wonder if there are any markers or clues to spot the fakers in general....

David,

Clearly if we list all the reasons..........the fake TRC's will only get harder to spot.

Maybe to tell certain points helps others to improve their fakes. Not to write about can not stop faking, of course, but maybe it keeps a few cheater away.

Not to leave You alone: I learned to identify the real TRCs from watching at the gallery over and over again. - A nice way to learn a bit more about the people and their "stock" here, BTW!

In the end there are only about a dozen of different TRCs.
In the gallery - searched by years - You can see also how the TRCs age over the years very naturally. - Hard to fake!

Real RIC plexi TRC's are silk screened on the back, then painted, not "embossed' on the back. I've been seeing a lot of fakes on Ebay myself, and the think that nails it for me is the color and shape of the gold ones. That and the fact that the SAME seller is always selling a TRC off of a guitar he salvaged from some totaled guitar. His screen name is "origw72".

I guess what I am seeing is the outline of the decal, not really embossed, but the back is not completely flat.

Perhaps post a couple of pics David. We can tell you if it's real or not.

I agree that "origw72" is a shady character, and his TRC's don't even look close to the real thing. What do you think of these guys?

Does anyone have experience with these sellers?

"lpnnursechristine" seems to have a LOT of TRCs and pickguards for sale. I mean, WAY more than should be believable...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I agree. His white plexi ones definitely look suspicious, but the 660/12 on ebay looks okay I guess.

Not a decal, but black silk-screening, painted over with the background color.

Silk screen ink is a paste, and when it dries it has thickness.
