Tube Ampology Bezels. Opinions?

Post by dwinn »

I'm thinking about buying a tube ampology bezel, most likely the Cove model, with the dip in the plastic for your thumb. Anyone here tried out the different ones and have any recommendations?

When I had my first 4001 (20 years ago), I always rested my thumb in that "cove," i.e., on top of the pickup with the cover removed. Now that I have returned to the fold, I am thinking about one of those as well for my '72. I will leave some thoughts if I grab one.

I find the cove/bump designs to be a distraction (some people will swear by it, and power to them) but the standard design and the basic idea behind the bezel is spot-on. It retains a very stock look while giving you a little more comfortable real estate for fingerstyle playing. Granted I sometimes rested my thumb on the bridge pickup directly but this is more comfortable.

Those look pretty handy. Usually I just rest my thumb against one of the screws that hold down the surround or the pickup itself. I'll have to check these out if I order some parts to do some work on my 4001.

I have the deluxe on all of my Rick's except for one, the one with the original horsy. :D I like them, a lot, obviously.

I know you've already ordered, but I have the deluxe bezel on my 4003, and I'm a fan! The thumb rest is where a 5th string would be, so it feels very natural to me. That said, i don't "anchor" my thumb all the time; I change my hand position to get the tones i need.

yeah I'm the same. Sometimes I free float my thumb or sometimes I anchor it on one or two strings down from the one I'm playing. It all depends on the music.
