Down firing woofer ala acoustic image amps
Has anyone had a chance to use an Acoustic Image amp in a bass setting gig? I wonder about the down firing woofer idea, and may try it with one of my markbass cabs by adding some rubber feet to the speaker grill. I know my home audio sub is down firing, and low frequency tones are not real directional- so the room filling idea makes sense. Just wondering what the results are in a real world setting.

My bassist and I tried this. Used a 2" rubber mount on each corner. SVT3 head driving 2 x 10" cab. Great "thumpy" low end heard throughout the room, but... lost most of the mid and hi mid "crispness" and all the great trebly overtones of his playing. It wasn't for us. I played in an "oldes" jam band where the bassist loved this tone. Always played his Markbass with no treble and cut hi mids. He would have loved the down blast tone.
In the case of my regular bassist, we had better results aiming the cab into a corner, about 3/4-1 meter out. Very noticeable boost in volume and low end, yet kept the sparkle we like.
