Keep 325 trio intact?: C58, V59, C64

Post by mipiti3 »

I have this special 325 trio of the C58 (alder- love it) JG, V59 bee-u-ti-ful mapleglo, and C64 JG = all new or very recent. Every once in a while I think having the three is too much and the V59, not being really what JL played, ought to go. But then it is so lovely in mapleglo and perfect condition, I hesitate. If it were not maple, I probably would cede it. I just wonder if it is worth more to have these 3 as a 325 trio or let one of them go for some money (thinking of an Epi Casino-used, older). I know I can never get the V59 again. I can get the Epi without selling the V59 also. Just should I keep my trio intact? How rare is that? Your thoughts?

Yeah, I got a reply! Thank you! Will consider. Guess I would miss it (V59) if I let it go, since it is a rare item these days, and it was pretty fun to search them out in the first place. I love the sense of humor and camaraderie on this forum. It's so generous and friendly. Why aren't my neighbors like this? Thank you!

Fortunately You do not have to sell one.
If the reasons for buying each of these three still exist I would not tear one apart.

Are you asking members of a Rickenbacker forum if you should sell a Ric? There's your answer!

The most common thing you come across on any guitar forum is someone writing "I wish I still had it...I wish I had never sold it...."
Eventually, if you part with that guitar you call "lovely," you will most likely write those words, too.

Oh gosh, someone has asked me again if I will sell it (V59). If they wanted my very old Gibson 12 string acoustic, that would be easy to relinquish. You guys are right about seller's remorse, esp. on a Ric forum!! I'll take some pix for you. Surely there's info somewhere on here about how to upload.

I would consider selling one to finance another full scale Ric. From a players perspective, three 325's seems limiting unless you are making a living in a Beatle band. 8)
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

Emily, below the posting window you will see Upload Attachment
Follow the instructions from there. The acquisition of these instruments has been part of your music history and each one seems to speak to you for a different reason. I would hold on to them for now. Your intuition will tell you when the time is right.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

It sounds like you're weighing the same decision I was dealing with a couple years ago over my 325s. After purchasing one, I had initially set out very deliberately to build a small collection.

But at some point I felt constrained by the very thing I'd accomplished. For me, reality was I was playing other guitars more than the 325s, and so it just seemed like it made more sense to let them go.

Occasionally I regret not keeping one, but on the whole it was a good decision for me to let them go.

Good luck with your decision, whichever way you go.

Well, yes it was great fun to track all three down and acquire them. If the V59 were not a gorgeous maple, it would be a cinch to give it (it's heavy) up and remain with the two that JL actually played, the 325C64(very cool- and my first Ric) and the 325C58 (love the alder). But I guilt trip myself about not really needing the V59. How many guitars can one play? (I know, rhetorical question when it comes to THIS forum!). But I got a George Duojet (not the $20K one!) and a Tennessean, and I have a regular Ric 360/6 midnightblue and Ric 360/12 maple (it satisfies my maple urge- & I have never liked fireglo and feel no urge to have the 360/12C63), but it's all ending up to be too many guitars. So how unusual is it to have all three 325s- of which 2 are discontinued?? I will get them all out now and remind myself that I really prefer playing the C64 and C58 over the V59. Then I must see how much I need to lessen the guilt and get some $ and if I can part with the V59. And all this is probably shocking to you because I am just re-learning guitar after quite a long time and am embarassingly still stuck at what I knew back in 7th grade. But I LOVE these guitars and they are inspiring to my re-learning playing and I love realizing my dream of playing a few of the models of John and George, the band that changed my life.
