Way Huge Green Rhino and Red Llama
Okay, Mike, let's get you back on your expertise, shall we?
Way Huge has reissued the Green Rhino and Red Llama overdrive pedals (as a side note, the two together equals one Camel Toe).

Have you used either? Which one(s)? Which do like better? Which one do you think for my needs? Before you answer that: Add the Kinks to "The People Jake Covers Regularly"

The Way Huge stuff is good, but I think you really just need to get a Timmy
(and did you really post "camel toe?")

Well, camels must have something on the end of their feet, otherwise they would be just like an elephant that seems to have nails glued straight onto the end of their legs with no obvious foot....whojamfan wrote:(and did you really post "camel toe?")
The Dugongs that I have studied don't seem to have feet either....
Eden.
I confused Faraday's cage, with Schrodinger's cat box....

Hold on, let me Google that for you.JakeK wrote: What is a Timmy?

I could have done that! I was hoping Mike could give me his thoughts on it and how he finds it better than a Way Huge pedal or Tubescreamer.

I did, and now having read several reviews and watched a few YT videos, I feel qualified to tell you that it's a BOO-TEEK (read: a fave of the TGP crowd ) version of the classic OD pedal circuit with wonderful clarity/transparency (if ya want it), touch sensitivity (if ya want it), and a really responsive EQ. There is also the original Tim which adds a send/return for an effects loop and a built-in boost (which I'd certainly find useful).
The Timmy is $129 and they're out of stock 'till September. It's big brother, Tim, is $169 and available in August. There is a waiting list for both.
Now that I'm an educated consumer, I'd like to hear your personal experience Mike, without having to re-hash any other readily-available information.
Oh and I want one.
Re: Way Huge Green Rhino and Red Llama
A few stores stock them, like Harbor Music in Redondo Beach, California, and he can ship you one. Used, these things go for a lot more to capitalize on the "gas gotta have it!!!" factor.
The basic deal with this pedal I found was it's ability to overdrive a guitar without changing the personality of it. The bass and tone controls are reversed like the "cut" switch on a Vox AC30 and are quite responsive. The drive can go from a clean boost to fairly heavy(not metal)while maintaining your playing nuances and instrument specific tonalities. It really differs from the tube screamer types as there is no shrilly top end or bass being chopped off.
With the drive off, it makes a great clean boost pedal, and it stacks very well with other drives and boosters to give you more distortion if you want it.
This pedal offers a great solution for Rickenbacker and Fender players who want that super clean, bright amp sound, and just need some drive here and there. With most other drive boxes, you have to roll the tone control way back or else it gets horrible going from a bright guitar to a bright amp, but the Timmy let's you keep all the clean you want, and enables you to not be stuck with a muddy drive with little personality. The tone controls really work to dial out what you don't want, but leave what you do.
True bypass, standard power plug, top notch components and a regular size enclosure make this a great pedal to try out. And hey, if you don't like it, you can sell it for more than you bought it for.

I really tried to stay away from the word "transparant" for ya there John!
I think you will really dig it John, it's a perfect tool for multiple playing situations.

Thanks Mike, great write-up. Not really into my Tubescreamer anymore. I'd love to grab one of these and/or a Box of Rock.
Re: Way Huge Green Rhino and Red Llama
MI Audios Crunchbox V3 is a very cool and much less expensive alternative to the Box of Rock, as well as taking up much less real estate. Just remember there is an internal trimmer pot inside to adjust the presence if you check one out. I got mine used for 70 bucks.

Picked up a used Timmy and it really sounds cool. I put it behind my OD-9 and combined......OH MAMA!!!!
I'll bring it to SCARF (whenever that is).
