The Twenty
I took advantage of pleasant weather and dappled sunlight to shoot the collection, now at its likely peak of 20. I shot them in groups of five because that is all the single stands I had! As I get closer to the finishing of the book, I'll likely sell many of these off. In fact, the Fireglo V63 goes to a new Forumite this week.
The top photo is the 4004 group; from left, 2008 Cheyenne II Blueburst (2005 COY), 1997 Laredo Fireglo, 1993 Cheyenne, 2004 Cheyenne II (ex-Laredo) Turquoise, and 2003 Cheyenne II 5-string conversion with chrome hardware.
Next is the vintage group (sorta); from left, 1997 4003SPC "Naked Tux" Tuxedo, 2002 4001V63 Turquoise, 1991 4001CS Chris Squire, 1997 4001V63 Fireglo, and 2003 4001C64S in "Maplematte."
Here's more Color of the Year examples; 2000 4003 Sea Green, 2001 4003 Desert Gold, 2002 4003 Burgundy, 2004 4003 Montezuma Brown, and 2006 4003 Amber Fireglo.
And the specials; 1989 4003SPC Blackstar, 1972 4001 Azureglo (refin), 1972 4001 Berryburst ("Mink"), 2007 4003 75th Anniversary Dark Cherry Metallic, and 1986 4003 Shadow.

Oooh, NICE! Now ya got me wantin' a few of 'em...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: The Twenty
Fabulous collection. I would love to hear how that cii converted 5 string sounds/ plays.

JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: The Twenty
Mmmmm... Desert Gold! If only that came with full width inlays.... You'd be on high alert for a long-distance burglar!
Re: The Twenty
I don't play bass, and even I'm impressed! Nice collection, PB. My favorite group: The S basses, with the fireglo V63 and CS tied for favorite bass

Re: The Twenty
You know, I'd love to tell you, but I have no other 5-string to compare it to. This was once owned by Jeff Scott, then the fellow between Jeff and eventually Brian Crisman converted it to the 5-banger. Brian was thinking about making it a 10-string, but decided to sell it off instead. I got it disassembled and had it put back together (I'm a wiring dunce). I know that the B and G string response is lower on the treble pickup, but sounds good on the bass (neck) pickup. I have T.I. Jazz Rounds on it. It is wired V/V/T. The old standard 4004 neck is a tad wider than the typical 4003, so for me it is comfortable having five strings on it. Other folks think it is a good compromise -- not as wide as a real Cii/5, but wider than a 4003/5. This will be the next one to be harvested from the Forest. If you are interested, let me know.woodyng wrote:Fabulous collection. I would love to hear how that cii converted 5 string sounds/ plays.

Re: The Twenty
Thanks,Paul,i wish i was in the market for another Ric,but i am still behind the 8 ball from my last purchase (laredo v57/4002), and the even more recent swapping of hardware amongst my paltry collection of 3...
You have many basses which i would love to have,if i were to suddenly find myself more solvent. (the CS,turquoise cii,and the ci would be my starting points....)
I have been doing some recording with a borrowed yamaha 5 string, but in general,i have strung the odd bass BEAD rather than actually purchase a 5-er,i just find i don't miss those 4 or 5 upper notes on the g string, and get to retain the same familiarity/feel that way.

Good thing you weren't doing a book on vintage ('50s-'60s for example) Ferraris, imagine the garage space you'd need to keep them all in!bassduke49 wrote:As I get closer to the finishing of the book, I'll likely sell many of these off.

The Naked Tux was a really yellowed Tux, so I had Larry Davis strip it down to the maple and give it a satin clear coat. Here's a couple better pix:Kopfjaeger wrote:Whoa, that naked Tux is interesting looking!!
