Rickenbacker Pickguard Colors

Post by Grey »

I am currently putting together a partscaster build and having a mild bout of insanity trying to decide on a color scheme. In doing this, it occured to me that while Fenders, Gibsons, and other guitars have a variety of color combinations, you rarely ever see a Rick with a pickguard that isn't white, black, or gold. Or those mirror finish metallic ones on the 650's. So who's got something a little more exotic on their guitar or bass? Tortoise shell? Pearloid? 3-ply? Wood?

Well, when a manufacturer is building a product that's as inferior as a Fender or Gibson, one has to tart it up with a fancy pickguard.....

All kidding aside; it's a bit more of a task with a Rick because one generally wants the guards to match the TRC.

I own Fenders, so Fender and Gibby owners, don't get upset; I'm just joking around.. . I don't own any Gibsons because when I see one I like, it's usually the price of two double bound Ricks... and you regulars know how I am about those....
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

"Uh, I like the double bounds. . . ."

The RickBeat models library has a 660/12 Petty with gold pickguards but white TRC:

Actually kinda like the mismatched-ness.

I forgot that the 2030GF also has a silver metalflake pick guard:

After trying both white and black on my 2030, I finally went with back-painted black with white edges. It gives kind of a nice "now you see it - now you don't" look against the black body. One that I've always wanted to see would be a 4001/4003 in Monte or a nice Autumn Glow with a Hofner-style mother of toilet seat guard.

That 660/12 TP was a used one that Elderly Instruments had listed for sale a few years ago. I called about it and they said they would put a "3 Day Hold" on it for me but when I arrived the next day, it had already been sold. :(
