Ruby color variation on some 2012 Ricks

Post by RonLovesRic12strings »

My local music shop has 2 new Ruby-finished Ricks. One is a darker red, and one is a lighter-shaded red, which looks similar to the "old" ruby of the 80's. I prefer the lighter one.

I'm not sure which of the two shades my new cii is, but I do know it's FREAKIN' gorgeous! :D

What I'm still getting used to is the irregular grain of the new fretboards. My band mates love the look of it, but I'm still warming up to it. :|

I haven't seen one in person yet but I would want the darker shade of ruby and I've never been a fan of "figured" RIC Fretboards , they look B stock to me.

I have no idea whether my 4004Cii Ruby is a variant of darker or lighter. All I know is that it looks awesome. I love it!
Figured fingerboards look cool in my opinion.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Yours is one of the early dark ones Joey. The newer lighter ones are REALLY light, there would be no question!

This is one of the darker ones. The serial number is from late 2011 so I believe it was produced for the NAMM show in January 2012.

The earlier Ruby finish varied from a Candy Apple [sic: Red] to a near-Burgundy, so I am not surprised that there is variation in the new Ruby.
