Reissue Bass?
Any info if Ric will ever re-issue a RM Bass?
It's been years since I've even been back to this forum...quite frankly I gave up hope that they would. Just don't understand why RIC won't make what would (I think) be a HUGE seller!
Fender will make just about anything from 50+ years ago plus they have new updated products available for their customers that want that. I think they are business smart and want to deliver what the market wants.
Warts and all, REAL Horseshoe pickup, thin neck, long headstock, dot's, Fireglo (1964...)
WHO ELSE WOULD ORDER ONE? HUMMMMMMMMMM.....
(If not I still have my 1975 4001 that I love but don't gig with it any more, it would be to difficult to replace. Even Gibson re-issued the ES-175D for Steve Howe for the same reason)

Re: Reissue Bass?
I'd sell a kidney for one.
But they'd have to do what they've done with all reissues and make it available in all RIC colors to get the best profit margin I think. I'd also love this same hypothetical bass in a new and FAR more accurate Chris Squire signature model with stereo wiring like his has.

They released one in Japan, but it wasn't a dead on balls accurate reissue of what you're going for.

Re: Reissue Bass?
I think the "real horseshoe" issue was put to rest
a while ago when it was stated by our friends at
Rickenbacker that the correct alloy for the shoes
was no longer available.
As for comparing Gibson to Rick as far as responding
to the market, Gibson has a larger market and their
desirable vintage instruments have exponentially higher
value thus making $7000 Les Paul historic much more
palletable than it's $250,000 vintage counterpart.
FWIW- regarding Gibson's archtops; Gibson is no longer
making them as stock items. Not sure if this includes the
175D or not...
While many here would wish to see our dream instruments
re-issued, we also must take into account that the Rick shop
is small, and that they don't have a so-called custom shop.
I think it's too bad though, that there is currently no
"vintage" style bass available, though the 4003 is creeping
ever closer to "V68" land....

Re: Reissue Bass?
Just CB binding, crushed pearl look-alike on the current FWI, and the hardware, pickups, TRC and pickguard from the C64 would make a stock 4003 into a V68.... Though you may also want to add in a finger tug bar....chefothefuture wrote: I think it's too bad though, that there is currently no

Re: Reissue Bass?
From my observations (and I certainly don't intend to put words in the man's mouth),John Hall is much more concerned with the present than the past. The factory is doing a great job of keeping up with extremely high levels of demand of the current models, so why make production less efficient by introducing new (old?) models? There's always the V63 and C64 on the used market. Not exactly what you're looking for, but they're something at least.
From things he has said, I think Mr. Hall would prefer to look into the future (new models and improvements of present models) than the past. But with business moving in the present, why tinker with the formula?

I get the same impression .coolingitdown wrote:From my observations (and I certainly don't intend to put words in the man's mouth),John Hall is much more concerned with the present than the past. Yet I find it ironic that when Rick unveiled the V series
back in '84, they pretty much kicked the other American makes
in the rear with the accuracy (when compared to the others "re-issues)
and re-introduction of wanted features, and now seem to have lagged
behind.
I gather it is from ecconomic forces and the fact that Rick is a small company.
A full blown custom shop is almost a separate and expensive entity.
So in this market, I can understand the need to concentrate on the successful
models. From the comments on this forum, I gather that the "non-collector" players
prefer the 4003. The number of people who prefer the v63 or c64 seems lower.
Then the collectors are more into the vintage models over the newer re-issues...
Course there are many other variables so, this story will continue...

Re: Reissue Bass?
I concur. I'm much more of a player than a collector, and I definitely prefer my 4003 to my 4001c64.chefothefuture wrote:From the comments on this forum, I gather that the "non-collector" players

It seems to me that the c64 does what it does very well and will be collectable eventually, but I find the 4003 to be a much more versatile instrument.

Re: Reissue Bass?
There are a few of us who appreciate the 4004 as well as the 4003, if not more. I look forward to any more possible changes to the appointments of the 4003, maybe even the 4004 as well. It could be that someday the 4003 has full width sparkly inlays. If that happens, I'll be looking to buy one if my funds allow me to.coolingitdown wrote:I concur. My V63 satisfies my desire for a vintage style 4001S.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

They've done more than enough RM-inspired reissues.

I TOTALLY agree with this!!!!!
Being the owner of two V63's, (including a PMC), I feel as if I have an RM1999---or as close to one as I can get!!!!
And, I am VERY happy with what I have!!!!!!!!
