12 String opinions

Post by abluesky »

I am picking up my first Ric 12-string this next week (my first ever). I am curious on any opinions out there on 12-string recs (brands) for a small bodied guitar as my guitar will be the 456. I've been thinking of flats as I do like the tone of those w/my other Ricks. Pyramid golds?

Thanks and happy holloween.

Some of the commonly used string sets around here, anyway.

Having played a Ric 12-string with Pyramids over the summer, I can safely say I'm in the crowd who doesn't like them. They hurt my fingertips and added unwanted relief in the guitar's neck, causing for difficulty in fingering higher up the neck, making for an uncomfortable playing experience.

Strings and amp are irrelevant; the most crucial element for the ultimate Rick 12-string sound is buying a double bound model.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

The secret is the binding; it just makes a Rick 12 string sound better.

NO! NOT PYRAMID GOLD! They are not the strings they claim to be. If you dig on the Rickenbacker factory forum, you will find threads as to why.

If you want flats, the best bet is the T-I custom set put together by Pick of the Ricks.

And yes, I agree: the secret is in the double binding, but with checkerboard, like mine.

Hi,
does it mean anything if the binding is on a 660/12?
I think the binding is still more important than some semi solid construction!!
By the way i have checkered binding i am the checker or was it jagger grabber digger??
i am so confused.

And you'd have to wear an Arrow shirt while playing it ...

My advice to you is to stay away from flatwounds as they are not recommended by the factory because of the neck tension they produce. Try some stock ric 12 strings sets instead.
#1- the tone lasts longer, and #2- the use of them will keep your warrnty intact, if you are the original owner of the guitar.
