hi gains in a 650c?
Has anyone put hi gains in the 650C? I love the guitar but was thinking the hi gains might open it up a little more...

The typical mod to "open" the 650 up is to swap pots - try 500k instead of what's in there.

There have been several postings over the last couple of months, of RRFers changing the pots on the 650 models for tone embellishment.

I put high gains (with toaster covers) in my former 650C after a pot swap with the HB's. I prefered the high gains. I did use the stock pots with the high gains. This guitar is owned by redamber. There is more info here.

Re: hi gains in a 650c?
I swapped out my 650C volume pots for 500k units earlier this year--huge difference. My original "250k" volume pots were actually a lot lower than spec which made for dull tone. Pots are cheaper to try than pickups. Let me know if you want help with it, John. BTW--what year was your 650 made?
If it is to be, it is up to me.

Doug! I'd really appreciate that!

As a test you can just lift the ground from one of the volume pots to give the effect of higher value pots. You won't be able to turn the one pickup down all the way though. This costs nothing and will tell you if you want to go with the higher value pots.
