The Pretty Things
Saw these guys the other night and they can still put on a great show.
Here's a BBC Session for the song What's The Use? from the LP Parachute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zrZHMuu ... D1&index=4
Sounds like a Rick 12 to me. What do you think?

Re: The Pretty Things
I saw these guys about 7-8 years ago.
Sadly there were only about 10 people in the crowd but they played like there was 10,000.
Afterwards the singer and guitar player came out and asked to join our table where they sat and shared a few drinks and told us some amazing tales of good times and rock and roll for well over an hour.
Great guys and great band who never got the recognition they deserved.

I've only heard of them through the writing of Richie Unterbarger. I had no idea they were either back together or still together.

Rod,
Definitely an electric 12-string, but it sounds to me like the high octave string comes before the fundamental. Thanks for sharing, though. I'd never heard of these guys, and they're very talented.

I saw them 8 years ago and they were great.
Dick Taylor played a Vox Phantom, a Texan Epiphone and a telecaster with "psychemeter" written on it, plugged into a Vox head with a selmer cab.
No 12 strings seen that night, but I really enjoyed the show.
Those guys have produced some incredible records in the 60's.
My favourites are "SF Sorrow" "Parachute" and "Emotions".

Good choices.
Those are the 3 I would recommend also.
They had just come out with a new CD that I bought at the show (the one 7-8 years ago). Pretty good stuff.

My ears aren't quite as sharp as yours. Glad you enjoyed the clip.
Thanks to everyone else for their input. When I saw them Dick Taylor was playing what looked to be an old Vox with lots of switches and whatnot through an AC-30. He also played some amazing bottleneck slide on an acoustic guitar. Makes you wonder what The Stones would have sounded like if he'd stuck around.
Re: The Pretty Things
"Don't bring me down" was the first 45 that I ever owned - I remember winning it on a Welsh Fairground and playing it to death for ever afterwards - I still have it and it still graces the Sondek on a regular basis - I thought that they were great! David Bowie payed them the greatest of respects when he included two of their hits on "Pin Ups", another under appreciated piece of plastic (in my case it is orange and not black) and also a regular on my deck!
Never realised that it was a Rickenbacker sound though, but I've just played it again now and it is bright enough to be.

There's an acoustic 12 string on here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Zkau7LRCdw not a Rick though. Can't find any evidence of Rickenbacker's on You Tube from any of their 60's stuff - mainly a Tele and 335 combination.
Re: The Pretty Things
Pretty Things....a much under-rated band
SF Sorrow and Parachute are a joy to listen to.
