Dallas/Austin recommendations

Post by philipharris »

Going to be in Dallas & Austin over the next couple of weeks - anyone got recommendations for good vintage guitar shops, esp. for ricks? And any recommendations for gigs/venues to catch?

Never been to Dallas, but I've been to Austin. Music stores were closed when I was there, but my experience walking down 6th street was to notice that every club had a blues band that was trying to or was sounding like Stevie Ray Vaughan. My vote is to weigh the quality of the music against the price of the beer and/or the admission charge or lack thereof. There are no other variables.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

My friend and I has a good time at the Continental club in Austin. One night the house band, excellent musicians and the next, three or four other bands, I think the Mother Truckers.

Haven't spent too much time in Dallas. Played at Gilley's, but it was a tourist trap bust. Austin was great. Check out the Continental Club, especially if Dale Watson or Red Volkaert is playing. As for guitar stores, check out Austin Vintage Guitar and Austin Guitar House.

Isn't The Bass Emporium in Austin? Got my BBR 4003 from there, they were good guys to deal with long distance.

It is(was), but they're online only now. The brick & mortar store closed in 2011 I believe.
