Overview of Lemmy's Basses
Ok, so I'm late to the party with Motorhead... I'm becoming a big fan...
Can anyone reference a previuos thread regarding his many Rickenbacker basses?

Re: Overview of Lemmy's Basses
Hey Rick. Sorry to leave you hanging there, but I don't think there is one previous thread discussing Lemmy's basses. Using the search function, there are various discussions in and around some of his gear, but nothing has been collected in one spot, nor has a discussion forum been created. Most of what I found concerned the wait some people had to receive their 4004LK. I've been a fan of Motorhead for a lifetime, but I've never cared too much about his different basses (surprisingly...). They all sound like Lemmy when pumped through Murder One.
Like you, Lemmy is a huge Beatles fan and tells some good, maybe salty, stories. You'll have to search the rest of the internet for alot of it, but he also has some strong opinions on Rick basses, both positive and negative. He has HB PUPs in his current main bass. You might also search for "Tim Butcher" his guitar tech.
One of the more interesting things I've seem was a restoration/refurbishment done on one of his carved basses by TC Ellis guitars in the UK. The "on-the-road" fixes are brutal. If you can't find it, let me know.
That's what I have off the top of my head. Happy hunting. No Sleep 'til Hammersmith.

Thanks John. I just figured there would be more here about it. He obviously owns/has owned many over the years. I even saw a video with JH explaining Lemmy sent his 1st bass back to RIC for a restore...Lefty4001 wrote:Hey Rick. You've pointed me in the right direction.

For a very short moment I wondered how Jimi Hendrix could have known this though the 2 obviously knew another in those days.congerz83 wrote: I even saw a video with JH explaining Lemmy sent his 1st bass back to RIC for a restore...

I'm still thinking about making a topic on Lemmy's basses some day. Maybe I will. I think I got all of them in pictures on my hard drive (ssd actually).

If one person knows, it's Bert. So go for it, Bert!!! Amps, basses, everything!
Re: Overview of Lemmy's Basses
If you can do it, do it man. 40 years worth of history. When I was searching through here, I noticed a sensitivity to some of the stickers on some of Lem's basses. It shouldn't derail talk about his gear, but it did before. That being said, go for it.berth wrote:I'm still thinking about making a topic on Lemmy's basses some day. Maybe I will. A problem whith such a thing is that I can not edit my initial posting on this board. I think the first posting is the best place to put al information in. Even if the information is gained from later postings from others.

Re: Overview of Lemmy's Basses
There was a black (early 73 IIRC) 4001 that was on the French eBay site a few years ago that the owner had said was Lemmy's bass back in the day.
