Weight of Old vs New Ricks

Post by rick360man »

Hello!
I had the chance to try a '4 Jetglo 330 (all original) recently and noticed that it was considerably lighter than my 2008 Jetgo 330. I do have an '87 330 as well and
the '74's weight was similar to my '87 but both the '74 and '87 were considerably lighter than the 2008 model. I realize that there are many factors than can lead to difference in weight (tuners, pickups etc),
but I was wondering if the newer Rick 330s have a different/heavier centre block than the old ones or if there has been some design change along the line accounting for the weight difference. I was curious if anyone has noticed this and has any comments.
Thanks!

I am not sure when the change was but the old ones are true hollowbody instruments with an X cross brace in the body; the newer models are semihollow in that there is a center block, which does have it's advantages, such as strength and feedback suppression, although it does make the guitar a bit heavier.
