I"m Trying to Create a New Record

Post by WyattChirp »

New to the site, but a long time owner. I'm trying to create a new record, but I'm told that the serial number is invalid. I've owned this guitar for the last 54 years. It's legit.
What do I do?

Welcome, Joe. 8)

Can you read the S/N clearly? Lots of times the letters and/or numbers can look like another. Did you buy the instrument brand new? If not, perhaps something got switch out 54 years ago?

PM sent.

Can you post a photo of the serial number plate?

Often it won't let you create a new record because the SN you are trying to add is already in the data base. If that is the case then you must send a message to Peter (ADMIN) to have the entry assigned to your RRF account before you can edit it. You can also add a partial SN with a variable. Such as VD1084x or VD108x (as VD 1084 is already in the database.)

Do a search on the first half of the SN to see if there are others with similar ones. Often that will flag that you have missread the SN. The common errors are Q1 being confused for 01

Anything pre 1960. Will not work with the SN decoding system. Those you must manually feed in the date field - otherwise always leave it blank as it will be filled in correctly by the webpage. (It is a pet peeve that SN's often have incorrect dates because folks have manually fed in the incorrect date - ie when they bought it - rather then letting the page correctly date the instrument).

The SN field you can put anything you want in. (A few times I have fed in "Nojackplate001" for example).

Again if you share an image of the Jackplate / Bridgeplate we will do our very best to decipher it for you.

All the best - and thanks for registering your RIC. It expands our knowledge about these fine instruments. There are almost 26000 entries now. :D

Actually, I've had it since 1961. Not used to thinking this is 2016. My dad bought it for me used. The original owner had to sell it in a divorce. The guitar is a 1960
360 Capri, Fireglo. The serial number is 2T035. 2 (# of pick-ups) T (standard non-vibrato tail piece) 0 (1960) 35 (the 35th of 39 produced). The photo I have of the jack-plate exceeds the pixel limits of this site. Don't know what I can do about that.

Ok it is not in the database already. (I checked by trying to add it myself and no conflict showed up) So you should be able to add it no problem.

Here are other RICS with 2T0 in the database.
http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... T0&order=5

The "SN is invalid" warning is just to tell you that as it is pre 1960s the SN decoder will not work on it. You can still feed it in and the database will accept it,

2 = pickups. T= tail but the numbers don't give you a date. You can feed 1960-00 manually into the date field. If you check the dates of the instrument list I posted above you will see that 1960-00 is correct. But as the SN does not give a date pre the letters AA your guess is as good as mine.

Love to see images of your Capri. (They must be scaled to less then 1200 x 1000 pixels) tobe posted to the pages here. The database will accept larger images though and scale them itself).

Cheers

Submitted to registry. Trying to attach photos, but the images are 3264x1840 and they aren't sticking.

Do you have a facebook account? (Easy enough to get one if you don't)

A fast way to resize is to post the images to facebook (in a private album if you don't want anyone to see them).

I then save the facebook versions (right click "save image as") and post them here.

There are also freeware resizers you need to get the images less then 1200x1000 from memory.

I think that's a new record, in and of itself!

Haven't played her since 68-69. My dad wouldn't let me form a band. Can't blame him for my poor report cards. Guy in my garage band ended up in la as a session player.
Now, here is where I can use everyone's help. Need to find a vintage correct black nut. Somehow my 60 capri has a white bone. All photos show black. Are they graphite
or bakelite?

Thanks for letting me join the conversation.

I resize pics by sending them to myself through e-mail. The e-mail program gives me four choice: original, large, medium or small.
