Finish Cracks

Post by Harty_88 »

Hi Guys. New here and looking for some feedback on cracks on my 6 month old 330. It looks like it's just cracks in the clear finish but being at the neck I've been a little concerned. I took it to a local store who told me it looks to be just the finish and that it's common, purely cosmetic and nothing to worry about especially with the neck expanding to under the bridge pickup anyway. I've tried to take a photo which can be seen here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwj3y0t3xg2tq ... 6.jpg?dl=0 it looks worse in the photo than in person, probably due to the flash.

Attach the photo(s) directly to your post on the forum, lots of us are not going to join dropbox to see them.

Sorry. Here are some photos. The first is how it looks under normal lighting (hard to see properly)

Another photo with flash on, a bit easier to see. It was due to bright sunlight coming in the room that I spotted it in the first place.

Thanks for any feedback! Just wanting my mind at ease

Have you had the guitar out in cold weather?

A good point - has the guitar been exposed to any rapid and significant changes in temperature and humidity changes? The finish can crack around "stress points" (wood interfaces, screw holes etc) when it experiences sudden changes in these conditions.

Not that I can recall. It's been mostly in the case at home. The temperature has been pretty variable lately but nothing extreme. The guy at the local store did suggest keeping it in a room with a consistent temperature as he reckons that could be the cause. It's possible it was there before I got the guitar and didn't notice til now, I only noticed due to bright light shining in the window and it's hard to see without a bright light

The cracking your seeing isn't particularly abnormal. I've read where some have put a smallish towel the length of the neck while in the case to help prevent any shifting, if that's what you're worried about.
