Just got another

Post by rickenbastard »

So for a while I've been debating on my 3rd Rick. I knew I wanted mapleglo but was torn between the new 4003S so I could do it Lemmy style with a mirror pickguard or a normal 4003 so I could still use R-O-S...

Well, a craigslist find made the decision for me. Just got this 1995 4003. Plays great. Neck is about p-bass thickness and I always preferred the wider body wings. Seeing this one already has some belt scratches I plan on this being my main live bass. Still thinking of bastardizing it with a mirror pickguard and different knobs for the volumes

Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

Removed the pickguard to send it to pickguardian. Figured I'd post a pic of it exposed in case anyone ever wonders about the routing etc.
It all looks super clean.
I'm also debating switching to HB-1s in both positions because the pickups in this are very noisy. That will be at a future time though, I'm pretty broke between the bass and pickguard

Be prepared to change the wiring harness in the bass too, since HB1's sound a bit dull with 250K volume pots and .047 tone caps. Then you'll also have the option of coil shorting the HB1's to get back to a single coil tone if you like.

This is why I have no urgency for such an undertaking. I'll just have to click off my preamp between songs to kill the buzz then when I can afford it I'll have you wire me a custom setup but that won't be for a while. Gives me plenty of time to decide what I want

I was thinking it might be cool to put a clear pickguard on it!

That's even more nekkid! That checker binding with the maple is incredible. I would've totally done a clear pickguard if I wasn't as hellbent about my tribute to Lemmy/Steve Harris
