Fingerboard material question

Post by cheyenne »

When did RIC switch to the rosewood fingerboards? I like my 4003S, but I really miss some of the really figured boards I've had in the past. :(

At least a few years now, right?
And it seems like a lot of the ones i've seen online with the new rosewood boards are VERY highly figured.

I believe that both the current and previous fingerboard woods are considered to be "rosewood"; chechen (Caribbean Rosewood) and bubinga (African Rosewood) according to Ben Hall. Full disclosure: I am not a botanist.

No worries, Paul! Several "rosewood-like" woods have been called that for a very long time, even though only woods with "Dalbergia" as part of the scientific name are true rosewoods. It is not the name as much as the characteristics and qualities of the woods that count.
