NGD - 360/12C63

I finally succumbed to temptation and picked up this lovely 360/12C63 from Wildwood. Since the early 90’s,I have been playing a 24 fret 360/12, along with a 360/12 V64 from the same era and they are both great guitars. Compared to those instruments, the C series seems to have a larger neck and is a bit easier to play, but overall very familiar. I was not prepared for the reality of how BRIGHT this guitar is. Now I understand all those old live shots of George Harrison playing with his tone controls rolled off!

The only horrors on the guitar would be the tuners, several of which seem to turn endlessly before a string changes pitch, and the Orangey shade of Fireglow RIC is putting on these guitars, which is a bit of a shock compared to my 90’s guitars.

Small quibbles aside, I feel very fortunate to finally own a C63.

Thanks folks! Yeah, the Fireglow is beginning to grow on me . Reminds me of the shade on my long-lost 68 330.

To make the tuning smoother, especially for the slot tuners, check the nut slots for proper beveling from the witness point down and back to the tuners, and check the bridge saddles to make sure they are properly burnished from the saddle witness points back to the tailpiece. Then purchase a set of mandolin bushings from Stew Mac, flatten and trim the collars to fit, and install them over the slot tuner posts. These will provide bearing surfaces and keep the tuner posts from binding. Here's the headstock of my 1981 360-12 OS FG Ckbd to show what I mean:
